Movie: The Visitor
It was a yard sale buy from yesterday and man was it a dollar well spent.
It was a beautiful depiction of a mans internal struggle and how he finds himself in the end.
The casting was so very good. Hiam Abbass was so quietly excellent.
Richard Jenkins was amazing. He was also great in Let Me In.
Rating = 8 of 10
Book: Ready Player One
This book was so damn good I swear it was written just for me. It is chock full of pop cultural references from the years of my youth. It references books, movies, TV, cartoons and so much goodness it was amazing.
To make it even better this was an audiobook read by Will Wheaton, who was also a character in the book in his dotage!
And now it's going to be a major motion picture in 2014!!
"The year is 2044 and the world is in near-ruins. The Great Recession has taken its toll on the world's economy, and resources are scarce. The internet and gaming culture have evolved to a creation known as OASIS, a massive multiplayer online simulation game created by James Halliday and Ogden Morrow, the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates of Gregarious Simulation Systems (GSS). Halliday, with no heirs or other living family, dies suddenly and leaves a video will to those in OASIS and a book that was dubbed Anorak's Almanac, which purports to be a volume written by James Halliday's avatar Anorak in OASIS. The video says that whomever can collect three keys (Copper, Jade, and Crystal) that are hidden throughout the universe of OASIS and can pass through the matching gates will receive his fortune and controlling stake in GSS. This becomes known as the Hunt and people at once begin searching for Halliday's "Egg", a reference to the first "Easter Egg" in video game culture in the game Adventure."
I rate it 8 of 10!! Great Stuff.

I can't believe it's still March and yard sales are now in full swing,
Today I scored 15 new movies for $15.
I love that I got 15 movies for less than the price of one.
Today, Brenda and I are going to see Hunger Games in the theater with friends. The two tickets alone alone will cost more than this stack of movies.

Movie: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
I was a big fan.
Now I have watched the American remake.
The original version was raw and brutal and brave and I loved it.
They toned down this version a bit and changed just a few things to simplify it.
I liked it.
--I give it 7 of 10.
Enders Game: The Movie
"I hope this Doesn't Suck"
One of my all time favorite SciFi books is in production.
Enders Game will star Harrison Ford as Colonel Hyrum Graff, Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham, and Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin.
Ender will be played by the same kid that was in Hugo.
That kid was OK but not great in Hugo.
--They had better not F this up!!
Hunger Games Movie Prep
In prep for the Hunger Games movie this weekend I reread all the books. These have really great potential for being an awesome series of movies.

I watched the movie Brick last weekend. Great stuff.
"In a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and high school, student Brendan Frye's piercing intelligence spares no one. He's not afraid to back up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does - until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily, reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes."
--I love the contrasts in this movie. Film Noir in Sunny California.

Another year.
It's 10:25am. The coffee is made and excellent. My DirecTV is on-line again. Everyone else is still sleeping. And I'm thinking about how to best spend the next year...
Resolutions:
Eat less. Exercise more. (yes me too)
Do something creative (Photography, Writing, Art, Video)
Worry less about Politics and more about Inner Peace
Spend more time outside.
It's a simple list. Simple is good. In fact if I had to boil everything down to one resolution it would have to simply be: Simplify

I Stand Alone
I actually liked it.The cinematography was excellent. Beautiful camera work. The sepia tones gave it the feel.
Even the narration of the butchers decent into insanity was haunting.
Hard to watch? Yes. Disturbing? Yes.
I'm glad I watched it but wont be watching it again...
Serenity
It has been a long time since I have seen a great Sci-fi movie. Serenity broke the draught.
I already loved the characters. The movie made no attempt to retread the series. It made very brave plot moves. The special effect were excellent.
All it was missing was a serious sex scene, dammit!

The Hills Have Eyes
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Aaron Stanford, Kathleen Quinlan, Ted Levine and Vinessa Shaw are set to star in "The Hills Have Eyes," a remake of the 1977 Wes Craven horror.
The Fox Searchlight project is headed for a shoot in Morocco this month. The film will be directed by Frenchman Alexandre Aja, whose thriller "High Tension" just opened in North America; Craven will serve as a producer.
The story follows a vacationing family that makes a wrong turn in the desert and is terrorized by a cannibalistic clan.
Levine and Quinlan play the heads of the hapless family, Shaw plays one of their daughters and Stanford her husband.
Fox Searchlight picked up the project after it was shelved by Dimension Films, which already had set it up with Aja directing from a script he co-wrote with Gregory Levasseur.
Levine is a series regular on USA Network's "Monk" and recently completed shooting "Memoirs of a Geisha." Quinlan's recent credits include the A&E movie "The Riverman" and the Lifetime TV movie "Perfect Match."
After "The Hills Have Eyes," Stanford will segue into 20th Century Fox's "X-Men 3," in which he will reprise his role as Pyro in the franchise. Shaw most recently starred in "Melinda and Melinda." Her credits include "40 Days and 40 Nights" and "Eyes Wide Shut."

Mad Monster Party
Beck found this 1967 classic on DVD. The kids love it. Phyllis Diller totally cracks be up in this as a puppet. 40 Years ago!!When Dr Frankenstein decides to retire from the monster-making business, he calls an international roster of monsters to a creepy convention to elect his successor. Everyone is there including Dracula, The Werewolf, The Creature, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and many more. But Frankenstein's title is not all that is at stake. The famous doctor has also discovered the secret of total destruction that must not fall into the wrong hands!

Million Dollar Baby
BR and I saw this movie over the weekend.
Wow.
Hillary Swank, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman were ALL amazing and deserve awards, money and praise. I am afraid I will have to get in line.
All the characters in this movie were excellent. The plot was not the usual expectations in a sports story. They gave a audience a lot of credit. The photography was subtle and beautiful even in depicting horrible things.
--I just can't believe we went from, "Go ahead. Make my Day." to here.
