His real name was James Oliver Rigby, jr., suffered from a rare blood disease and died at the medical university of South Carolina.
‘The Eye of the World’ was Jordan's first fantasy novel, and it proved to be a hit. The book was published in 1990 and sold millions of copies. It began the hit series, ‘Wheel of Time.’ He published 11 more books and was working on The last in the series at the time he died.

An SCA couple I know who are expecting their first child (if it is a boy) want to name him Randall -- so they can call him Rand. (as in the Dragon Reborn from the Wheel of Time series).
Cool homage to the prolific, if shortlived, Mr Rigby!
If it were me, I'd be worried that he'd grow up with the nickname Felix. (You know, Felix Unger from The Odd Couple as played by Tony Randall.) Wow, does that comment horribly date me or what?!
